Mad World Comics
: Brain Candy for the Death Gen! :: home

Mad World Comics started as a questionable way to kill time as I passed my way through high school. Or, actually, slipped through high school. I wouldn't exactly say that time passed, nor did I do much passing in my time. But I digress. Mad World was just a way to vent all the little irks and peeves I had as a whiney, mopey teen. And true, most of what you see in the comics is just that; whining and moping. However, I believe that Mad World holds a special place in everyone's heart. Right above the mitral and tricuspid valves. Or maybe that's just trans fat. Or something. God, I'm quite terrible at writing these things.

So this comic is neither true, nor is it in any way autobiographical. Though, I will admit at times it tries to be. I do have to occasionally repress it, most often with a large stick or explosive instrument. It's just plain, simple fun. Just. You know. Random and kind of irritating. Kind of like bright lights and a concussion. Not something you particularly enjoy, but you find yourself staring at it anyway. Sorty of like ABC gum. Mmmm.

I'm Michael Wriston, and I draw Mad World. And write it, too, when there's words to be written. I live in suburban Maryland, just between DC and Baltimore. I roam and play with my wife, Sarah, and my son, Owen. We enjoy daisies, seals, otters, and most varieties of polar penguins. Just not those smarmy South American drug-peddling penguins. They're mean. (And smell funny, too.)

Mad World is drawn using a Wacom Graphire 2 tablet, the copy of Corel Painter that came with it, and the wonderfully free fonts from the people at Blambot.

I'm sure as I think of more, I'll add it here.
